After growing up around his family’s small business, David Ling, VP—Business Banking manager, knew he wanted to spend his career helping other small businesses achieve success. While David helped out wherever he was needed and learned a lot through each job, watching how his dad ran the business was even more valuable.

“The way my dad valued relationships and his commitment to follow through were two key takeaways for me,” David said.

In former roles, he dealt with larger companies, but in his position at Bankers Trust, David has the opportunity to work with smaller businesses on a day-to-day basis.

“Working with large organizations can be fun,” David said, “but working with small businesses is where my passion lies.”

David assists his clients in many ways by helping them think through challenges within their businesses and come up with solutions. David also supports them with cash flow management, ownership transitions, opportunities to get into new markets and much more.

“Having conversations early with the business owners is important because we can prepare and advise them to help them think through their options. We want to help them grow and evolve their businesses by having collaborative conversations,” David said.

This approach is unique to the Business Banking team. David believes this is one of the steps his team takes to stand out and to form genuine relationships with his customers.

“Having deeper and more proactive conversations with our customers and also working to understand their business helps us give recommendations,” David said. “We’re not only lenders, but we’re also advisors, and that’s what makes us different.”

While David has experience in many areas of banking, his expertise is in lending. At the bank, he manages the Business Banking team, which includes a government guaranteed lending group of three employees. Everyone on his team caters to small businesses in many aspects, and they have expanded significantly over the last five years.

The way David works with his clients is similar to why he enjoys sharing his expertise on the Bankers Trust Education Center, where he contributes in the Business section.

“It’s a way to show that we’re more than a lender. It’s a helpful way to reach out to our community – whether they’re a customer or not – to show support and provide resources,” David explained. “This is something unique to Bankers Trust, and it’s amazing to be a part of it.”

David Ling joined Bankers Trust in 2013 as a Business Banking Relationship Manager.
