Ashlee Vieregger, J.D., CFP®, CTFA AVP, Wealth Management & Trust Officer II
Ashlee Vieregger is dedicated to her customers and sharing her expertise throughout the community. Her passion is working with her clients and community members, and she always goes the extra mile – even taking one of her clients car shopping!
“One of my clients wanted help budgeting for and choosing the right car, so I guided her through the process,” Ashlee said. “Being a sounding board for our clients is something we do every day. If it’s within my power to learn about a topic, help a client make decisions, or get involved, I’ll do it.”
Ashlee is knowledgeable about her clients’ unique needs because of her strong educational background. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in finance from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She then went on to earn her Juris Doctor at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. After graduating, she worked in private practice for one year and has been in the financial services industry ever since.
“As a trust officer and fiduciary services provider, I see a lot of trust documents,” she said. “My legal background helps me to review these documents that my clients bring to me.”
At the bank, she serves clients on a day-to-day basis in two areas: fiduciary services and comprehensive financial planning. Ashlee’s clients are typically successful individuals and families. She also holds two professional designations: the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and the Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA). The topics and concepts covered by these designations touch on many aspects of her clients’ financial needs. She advises them on cash management, banking needs, income tax strategies and planning, investment management, estate planning, risk management and much more. What she spends time on ultimately depends on each individual client.
“Every day is different and there’s variety, which is what I love about my job,” she said. “I try to give my clients constructive ways to think about making decisions. I have to be well-versed in many unique topics based on what my clients need.”
She is not only passionate about working with her clients but also about financial literacy. She is specifically focused on increasing financial literacy for underserved individuals. Because of this, Ashlee serves as an expert contributor in the Retirement and Investing section of the Bankers Trust Education Center. She appreciates that the Education Center offers insight to people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access financial information or advice, such as young people who recently graduated from high school or college.
“The long history of the bank and our strong reputation within the community gives Bankers Trust and the Education Center credibility,” Ashlee said. “It can inform people before they make mistakes or uninformed financial decisions.”
Ashlee’s desire to help people improve their finances extends into the community too, where she volunteers with the United Way Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). This program provides free income tax preparation to low- and middle-income individuals and families in the Des Moines community. She and other volunteers filed more than 5,000 tax returns in the 2018 season which generated over $9 million in tax refunds. Ashlee completes approximately 50 tax returns per season.
“If families can’t afford to get their taxes done and claim the refund that they’re legally entitled to, that’s money they can’t spend on daily living expenses or whatever they may need it for most. It feels good to help.”
What Ashlee does within the community and for her clients contributes to the unique culture and reputation of Bankers Trust.
“We give the customer a personalized touch. We go above and beyond. People value someone who will work their hardest to achieve whatever the customer’s goal is,” Ashlee said. “I don’t think you could say that about all banks.”
